Hello Mitchell County Democrats,

As you all know the Democratic party is "a party of inclusiveness, a party of compassion, a party of educational and economic opportunities, a party of social justice and a party of responsible leadership. We believe in free and open expression of diverse ideas and opinions."

So if you have an opinion, an idea, a solution to a problem, or just want your voice to be heard in Mitchell County, please join us and get involved by actively participating in the Mitchell County Democratic Party. I look forward to meeting all of you at our monthly meeting on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. at Sallie's Mountain View restaurant. Let's see what we can accomplish together for the future of Mitchell County.

Huntdale Bridge Dedication

Friday, June 5th the Huntdale Bridge was dedicated. Pictured above cutting the ribbon left to right are, Former State Representative Monroe Buchanan, Rev. Vern Grindstaff, Pastor of Lily Branch Baptist Church, Christine Purdy, Chair, Mitchell County Democratic Party, Charles Vines, Mitchell County-County Manager, State Representative Phillip Frye, State Senator Joe Sam Queen, J.J. (Jay) Swain, Division Egineer, NCDOT, Jerry Story, Yancey. County Commissioner, Walter Savage, Chairman Yancey County Commissioners, and Nathan Bennet Yancey County Manager.

Both the Huntdale and Red Hill bridges are across the Toe River in Mitchell and Yancey Counties. They were replaced under one contract, costing $4,652,200.00 with Tayloy&Murphy, Inc of Asheville as the contractor.

Tenth District Annual Democratic Convention

The Tenth Distrct Annual Democratic Convention took place on Saturday May 16 at Valdese NC. We were welcomed by Mayor Hatley. The guest speaker was Wayne Goodwin, North Carolina State Insurance Commisioner. Officers were elected, including our own Charlie Hunt as Treasurer. Delegates present from Mitchel County were; Fran Mcferren, Virginia and Charlie Hunt, Jan Hamilton (President of the Mitchell County Democratic Women), Christine Purdy (Mitchell County Democratic Party Chairwoman), Doug Sudduth and Gloria Schulman.
