Huntdale Bridge Dedication
Friday, June 5th the Huntdale Bridge was dedicated. Pictured above cutting the ribbon left to right are, Former State Representative Monroe Buchanan, Rev. Vern Grindstaff, Pastor of Lily Branch Baptist Church, Christine Purdy, Chair, Mitchell County Democratic Party, Charles Vines, Mitchell County-County Manager, State Representative Phillip Frye, State Senator Joe Sam Queen, J.J. (Jay) Swain, Division Egineer, NCDOT, Jerry Story, Yancey. County Commissioner, Walter Savage, Chairman Yancey County Commissioners, and Nathan Bennet Yancey County Manager.
Both the Huntdale and Red Hill bridges are across the Toe River in Mitchell and Yancey Counties. They were replaced under one contract, costing $4,652,200.00 with Tayloy&Murphy, Inc of Asheville as the contractor.

The Tenth Distrct Annual Democratic Convention took place on Saturday May 16 at Valdese NC. We were welcomed by Mayor Hatley. The guest speaker was Wayne Goodwin, North Carolina State Insurance Commisioner. Officers were elected, including our own Charlie Hunt as Treasurer. Delegates present from Mitchel County were; Fran Mcferren, Virginia and Charlie Hunt, Jan Hamilton (President of the Mitchell County Democratic Women), Christine Purdy (Mitchell County Democratic Party Chairwoman), Doug Sudduth and Gloria Schulman..bmp)
