Friday, June 5th the Huntdale Bridge was dedicated. Pictured above cutting the ribbon left to right are, Former State Representative Monroe Buchanan,  Rev. Vern Grindstaff, Pastor of Lily Branch Baptist Church, Christine Purdy, Chair, Mitchell County Democratic Party,  Charles Vines, Mitchell County-County Manager,  State Representative Phillip Frye,  State Senator Joe Sam Queen,  J.J. (Jay) Swain, Division Egineer, NCDOT,  Jerry Story, Yancey. County Commissioner,  Walter Savage, Chairman Yancey County Commissioners, and Nathan Bennet Yancey County Manager.

Both the Huntdale and Red Hill bridges are across the Toe River in Mitchell and Yancey Counties. They were replaced under one contract, costing $4,652,200.00 with Tayloy&Murphy, Inc of Asheville as the contractor.

 

Construction began on the Red Hill Bridge April 26, 2007 and on the Huntdale Bridge May 4,2007. Only a small amount of cleanup remains at the Red Hill Bridge. The contractor should finish by the June 15 completion date.
